Dear friends and comrades all over Europe and Beyond!
We will face a key-moment in May, as social movement activists, altermondialists, migrants, precarious and industry workers, party members and unionists and many more converge to gather new forces for solidarity beyond borders. The programs of austerity and privatizations imposed by the Troika decide on the lives of millions of people in Europe. Together with people in Europe and the world we resist the rehabilitation of capitalism on the backs of employees as well as unemployed, retirees, migrants and the youth. Together with them we say: “We don’t owe, we won’t pay!”. While the European Union crisis regime builds more and more borders in order to divide, exploit and oppress us, new transnational movements are arising.
For this reason. we – social movement activists, altermondialists, migrants, precarious and industry workers, party members and unionists and many more, who want to connect our struggles and powers beyond nation-state lines – call for an international week of decentralised actions from May 15-25, 2014. During the week before the elections for the European Parliament we call for the spirit of the multitude of these social movements to build real democracy from below.
Starting on the symbolic date of the 15M movement in Spain, we aim for strong, united, internationally visible actions from May 15-18. We will start with a common “Kick-Off” in Brussels, protesting the European Business Meeting on May 15th at 8 a.m. in the morning. We will not let big business dictate European politics. We will say loudly “No to Austerity” with an international contingent with activists from Italy, France, Germany amongst others together with social movements and activists from Belgium (for more see: http://www.d19-20.be/en/ or http://www.altersummit.eu/)
In the following days many marches, actions, protests, blockades all over Europe will take place. Whether you look to Naples or Denmark, to Madrid or Paris, Amsterdam or Berlin a variety of actions for democracy, solidarity and commons will invite everybody to join.
We started to create mayofsolidarity.org to show the commonality of our struggles, to link our respective efforts in various regions, cities, political fields under the banner of Build #Democracy – Take the #Commons – Struggle in #Solidarity. However, we want to grow, we want to know much more, what people are planning, what they are targeting, what networks are being build, we want to connect the existing struggles and build new one.
Thus, let us know, what you are planning, and write to us with your information (what, when, who) at: firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com so that we can publish all of these activities on the website.
We have also beautiful posters, flyers, images/logos for you to download and use for mobilizing in your regions (in English: http://mayofsolidarity.org/materials/ (for the German version: http://blockupy.org/material-mai-2014/) Please let us know, if you need help for better access, useful frames etc.)
There is the idea of a collaborative video production to use for mobilization. We ask all networks and groups to make short videos that give answers to the question “Why are we part of the European days of action in May?”. You don´t need to have professional cameras – smart-phone clips will be all right. You can do an interview, a choreography, an action, street theatre, etc. –it would be good to recognize the place in the clip (e.g. film the statement in front of some known building). For further question or sending in the results, contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
We invite you to join the action days – the call – the motto! Be creative and participate with your own initiative! Build #Democracy – Take the #Commons – Struggle in #Solidarity. Spread the news to other networks, connect with other groups, let people in other regions, networks group, know what’s happing
Let’s fight together!
